a. The nitrogen monoxide and hydrogen concentrations are initially set to 0.0230 M. After 65 s, the concentration of nitrogen monoxide has decreased to 0.0180 M. What is the initial rate of decrease of nitrogen monoxide? Give the units.

b. Using the same conditions as in part a, what is the rate of increase of nitrogen? Give the units.

2. The following data was measured for the reaction: S2O82-(aq) + 3I (aq)   2SO42- (aq) + I3 (aq)

3. For the reaction [Co(CN)5(H 2O)]2-(aq)+ N3(aq )   [Co(CN)5(N3 )]3-(aq) + H2O(l) the following data was measured:

Make an Arrhenius plot of the data (making the most effective use of the graph paper) and find the best straight line to estimate the activation energy in units of kJ/mol.

4. A student measured the half-life of a single reactant decomposition to be 1045 s when the initial concentration of reactant was 0.10 M. The student’s friend started with an initial concentration of 0.50 M and found the half-life to be 209 s. What is the order of the reaction and what is the rate constant? Give the units of the rate constant.

5. Write the mass action expression for K c for the following reactions:

a. Kr(g) + F2(g KrF2(g)

b. N2(g) + O2(g NO2(g)

c. C(s) + O2(g CO(g)

6. Find the equilibrium constant Kp for the reaction: HBr(g) H(g) + Br(g), given the following data (T = 1400 K):

7. When chlorine molecules react with water vapor the products are hydrogen chloride gas and oxygen molecules, a reversible, endothermic reaction. Equilibrium is established for the reaction. Which way does the reaction shift if:

b. the total pressure is increased by adding argon gas to the reaction vessel?

c. the temperature is decreased?

8. For the reaction PCl5(g ) PCl3 (g) + Cl2(g), the initial concentration of PCl 5 is 0.110 M at 250 oC where Kc= 0.038. What are the equilibrium concentrations of all components in the reaction?
